The most common means used to move material to Škoda Auto plants is a so-called megatrailer with dimensions of 2.48 m x 3.00 m x 13.6 m, which can hold up to 100 m3 or 24 tons of material. The main advantages include easy movement in the plant area and legislative permission in all European countries.
Škoda Auto strives to use oversized vehicles for suppliers with a large volume of material, especially trucks with a volume of 130 m3 and 150 m 3 , so-called gigaliners. It can transport up to 50 percent more than a normal truck. The advantages of using a gigaliner are indisputable. The most significant benefit is an increase in efficiency, which is related to a reduction in the volume of trips, emissions and logistics costs. Gigaliners can also reduce the load on roads, as two sets replace the journey of approximately three regular trucks. Currently, a special permit issued by the Ministry of Transport is required for domestic traffic.
