As the demands on speed and efficiency of production and logistics raise, so do the demands on vehicles. One example is special trailers that are used by internal logistics and are known in Škoda Auto under the acronym EDIS (so called Environmental Transport Internal Škoda). The first generation appeared at the company in 2012 and around sixty units were gradually produced in various variants and sizes. Much of it is still used by logistics today, with more advanced solutions being sought due to the approaching end of their service life and higher demands.
Currently, logistics has at its disposal two new generation trailers (EDIS 3.0), which run usually connected in succession as a tandem train. Once all the technical and operational details are fine-tuned, the company will gradually increase their number. Using these trailers will not only save money and streamline logistics, but also increase environmental friendliness. The trailers are connected to an electric truck and the aim is to replace part of the internal fleet of diesel-powered trucks.
The main difference from the first generation lies in the robustness and construction of the chassis. The axles are now leaf-sprung and each wheel is equipped with a separate air brake, allowing speeds of up to 40 km/h according to homologation standards. The usable weight has also increased by 24 percent and the size of the loading area by 28 percent. The overall look and design was also changed.
