One of Škoda Auto's logistics goals is long-term sustainability, which is why the Expedition Parts Centre (hereinafter referred to as EPC) has focused on the recyclability of single-use packaging and packaging materials (ESD bags, VCI film, bubble wrap, etc.) from serial production. This strategy not only saves on production materials, energy and the cost of transporting packaging to the plant, but also optimises the packaging process for parts at EPC, reducing the overall cost of individual projects, protecting the environment and giving packaging a "second life".
In the case where suitable packaging is identified that can be used for packaging and sufficient source is confirmed, a transport test takes place in the EPC. After the agreement between logistics dpt. and the quality department the transport test is carried out, goods is send to an external production plant; the quality of the part and packaging is subsequently evaluated at this final destination after unloading. If everything is in order, the packaging is deployed in the serial process of parts packaging and shipping.
In 2022, a total of 2,846 pieces of originally single-use cardboard packaging were consumed for shipments to Indian plants. If you stacked all these packaging on top of each other, the resulting height of 528 m is the same height as the 9th tallest building in the world, the CITIC Tower, located in Beijing.
